2 CORINTHIANS 4:8 | MATERIAL THINGS ARE NEVER WORTH YOUR LIFE
When we look at the world over, especially with the presence of social media, we are constantly bombarded with material things from cars, to clothing, to beauty products to property. The luxurious lifestyle is what is placed in front of people’s screens on a regular basis so much so that one’s own soul and spirit are overlooked.

We see all these things that we admire and/or covet and we do not stop for a second to think about what it took for that person to obtain what they have. At what cost did what they are showing us on social media come at? Is what they are showing us in fact even real, because remember everyone’s life on social media is perfect and is not a true reflection of reality. So then why are we still fixated on artificial reality; why are we drawn to it even when we know it is all a façade? Kylie Jenner of the Kardashian clan was able to sell millions of her lip gloss line based on her lips which the public all knew to have been lip fillers. So I reiterate the question why do we continue to admire and aspire towards what we know not to be true?
The answer is, we are exactly where the devil needs us to be. Our minds fixated on material things; and the normalising of pretentiousness. Material things that wear out, that can get stolen, damaged and rotten. Things that do not add real value to our wellbeing. That is why you will find that there is no amount of fame and fortune that can and will take away depression, trauma, anxiety, porn addiction etc. All these things are things you cannot see, and therefore can only be dealt with by a force that also cannot be seen. That force is God the Father who is unseen, but yet is eternal, He is eternal just like the spirit that lives in us. We are spirit beings and the body like every other material thing of this world, is temporary. It passes away; that is why when we die, our body dies but not our spirit. The only difference is the type of spirit that will be in you at your death. Will it be the spirit of the sinful nature or the Spirit of God?
Instead of spending our time focussing on the things of the world that we see, for they will all pass away; let us focus on God who is eternal. Whose love is unconditional and through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, we have been given eternal life if we choose to accept it. We cannot see eternity, but that is why faith is important, for tangible things do not inspire faith in us, for what is there to hope for and have faith in when we can already see it? True faith comes from believing and believing from reading the Word in hope of the Father’s promise and the gift through grace of eternal life.
